How Much Fruits And Vegetables We Need?

You need to eat vegetables everyday because you simply cannot find another food group that is as perfectly matched to our everyday human needs as vegetables!
Vegetables fit us like a glove. From so many different perspectives, the nature of vegetables and the nature of human health are matched up in a way that simply cannot be duplicated by other food groups, including fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds, grains, seafoods, or poultry and meats.
Studies show that eating more vegetables and fruits has been linked to a lower risk of lung, oral, esophageal, stomach, and colon cancer–and the USDA food pyramid recommends eating 3 to 5 servings of vegetables and 2 to 4 servings of fruit a day. Which actually equals out to a range of 5 to 9 servings a day. But how do we know what’s in a serving, and how many should we eat within the combined 5 to 9 range? It has become even more confusing when the talk shifts from servings to cups, which are not necessarily the same.

Your daily fruit and vegetable needs depend on your calorie needs, which are determined by your age, sex, and physical activity level.

Household Plant Identification

Overview
Houseplants can essentially be any plant that can survive in a household. The types of plants that can survive indoor conditions can be expanded if a combination of incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs is used in order to give plants the various color lights they need. However, there are some plants that are specifically designated as houseplants because of their ability to survive in partial or full shade and their preference to the same temperatures that people prefer.

Humidity
Houses can sometimes be very dry, especially during the winter. Plants that prefer dry air will thrive in a home and can be considered houseplants as long as the other conditions for the plant are right. However, homes can be brought to the humidity level preferable for most plants, which is between 40 and 60 percent. Humidity can be increased for houseplants by grouping them together, since they tend to release water through transpiration.

Leaves
Plants that need a lot of sun tend to have small, thick leaves, since larger leaves can become overwhelmed with sunlight. Shade plants will often have thin, broad leaves in order to collect the greatest amount of sunlight possible while having structures that use up as little energy as possible. However, some plants have leaves that can acclimate, meaning that the plant's leaves fall off when conditions change, allowing the plant to develop leaves that are beneficial to the plant. The leaves of houseplants also tend to be light green.

Light
Plants that prefer shade make the best houseplants. The more shade that the plant can tolerate, the more flexibility that home owners have in where they place their houseplants. Plants that prefer more sunlight can be houseplants if the home has enough sunlight coming in through the windows, just as long as the plant is placed near the window.

Size
Houseplants usually need to be a size that is manageable in a household. Plants that are larger such as shrubs are not houseplants because they take up too much room in the house and can make a mess when they shed their leaves or flowers.

Temperature
Houseplants usually want temperatures that range from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit at night, according to Texas A&M University. Flowers are brighter and last longer when the temperatures are lower at night.

Importance of Plants
Jennie Jason of P J Flowers & Fruit Baskets

Plants are essential to the balance of nature and in people's lives. Plants are the ultimate source of food and metabolic energy for nearly all animals, which cannot manufacture their own food. Thus plants provide people not only sustenance but shelter, clothing, medicines, fuels, and the raw materials from which innumerable other products are made.

Plants bring natural beauty to our living spaces. They’ve been proven to reduce stress so well that one glance at a plant lowers your heart rate. They also help clean the air we breathe by absorbing toxins and acting as little oxygen factories. Plants simply make us feel better.

Studies show that:

1. In addition to calming your heart rate, plants lower blood pressure and reduce muscle tension related to stress

2. Plants help us relax and focus, leading to increased productivity, creativity, idea generation, and problem solving capabilities. In fact, the presence of plants helps so much that it has been shown to relieve the symptoms experienced by children with ADD.

3. Plants help patients recovering from surgery and ease the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.

I guess we’re finally learning what our ancestors have known for centuries, plants are more than just ornaments. At some level, we are deeply connected to them. So much so, that simply cohabitating with them brings us health and repose.
